DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE WITH SCISSORS
This is a collage exhibition about collage.
One definition :
collage
ˈkɒlɑːʒ,kəˈlɑːʒ/
noun
a piece of art made by sticking various different materials such as photographs and pieces of paper or fabric on to a backing.
the art of making collages.
a collection or combination of various things.
Daily drawing or collage are my warm up in the studio. I work with anything and everything including found ephemera, postcards, old drawings, etchings & paintings and weathered papers (collected and created in the garden). Also digital collages where elements are brought together in the digital format.
Collage, as a way of working, extends into assemblage and textile.
The putting together of disparate elements.
As an artist that feels unconstrained by process I enjoy working freely across media inspired by landscape, language and a need to establish a sense of place. This is bound up with ideas about interior/exterior spaces, windows, vessels, metaphors for transformation and building on my own history and mapping. I work intuitively, embracing serendipity & chance, exploring within that area of creating just below the threshold of consciousness, embracing the unknown. I begin with a piece in my hand and build from there without knowing the outcome.
It is in the doing that meaning may surface.
