The Absence of Presence
2020
Solo Exhibition
Liminal
Over time landscape holds traces of tangible reminders of memory creating a sense of place'.
The artist takes a tree in its natural environment, partially isolates it (in this case) by presenting it on a white background, separating it from the landscape it is a part of.
Why blue trees? - because they do not exist in nature - Gina hopes this jarring presence is a nudge to thinking about global deforestation and the connection we have to trees in our daily lives. Trees are more than just wallpaper.
The surreal colour and the tree inform and affect each other; the colour changes the tree creating something out of this world while the tree is rooted in this earth reflecting its tentative lifespan and losses already experienced.
